Social Concerns of Homeschooling

Social skills is an area of concern when it comes to homeschooling. Critics point out that since man desires to hone his social skills, a homeschooling setting where social interaction is limited is damaging to his growth and development. However, studies have proved this theory wrong.

Children placed in the competitive school environment lack the self-confidence to hold a discussion. Such children show little authentic concentration in the subject of conversation and don't know how to interact with people of a variety of age groups, especially their elders.

Children who are educated at home are more conscious of the implications and the rationale of their learning. They will ask intelligent questions and make accurate observations. Children begin their life by imitating their parents. Homeschooled children therefore pick up the genuine qualities they learn from their parents. On the other hand, they are sheltered from the detrimental influences of their friends.

These children are better prepared with the utensils necessary to face the world. The positive support that takes place in the homeschooling environment as opposed to being abandoned, embarrassed or ignored in a standard school situation strengthens their self-esteem. Children turn out to be better balanced and well-rounded as they move forward into adulthood.
